Obituary for William "Fred" Fred Mann

William "Fred" Mann born on October 28, 1928 passed away Monday, October 12, 2020.

He was preceded by his mother Luna Mann, father Ott Mann, son Michael Mann, brothers "Short" Mann, Jack Mann, Dent Mann, sisters in law Kathleen Mann and Helen Mann. Survivors are wife Betty Mann, brother Rayburn (June) Mann and sisters in law Jean and Brenda Mann. Children Susan (Kenneth) Standridge, Steve (Marlene) Green, daughter in law Debbie (Phil) Henderson. His grandchildren Crystal (Evan) Galbreath, Kevin Mann, Dan (Heather) James, Kevin James, Heidi (Jeff) Baker, great grandchildren Lana and Mason James, Jack, Bo and Eleanor Baker.

Fred was a member of Nectar United Methodist Church and had served as Chairman of the Board, Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the church choir. He was an avid golfer , fisherman and hunter. He served in the Army in the Korean War and retired from Hayes Aircraft/Pemco. Mr. Mann graduated from Hayden High School where he was considered one of the great basketball players, playing on both the junior and varsity teams from the 8th grade. He also loved and played baseball and softball well into his fifties, playing for Nectar and Sugar Creek. Fred served as Councilman and Mayor of the Town of Nectar. His favorite thing was spinning a good "yarn".

The family will receive friends at Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel 17885 St. Hwy.160. Cleveland, Alabama Tuesday evening October 13, 2020 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 14th, 2020 at 11:00 AM. with burial to follow at Edgewood Cemetery.
