Obituary for Shirley Mae Jones (Sorrow)

Shirley Sorrow Wynn Jones rose to heaven on June 24, 2022. She was surrounded by her proudest accomplishments, her children, as she left to be with Jesus. She undoubtedly was met with the acclamation "well done, good and faithful servant."

Shirley was born to Tharmon and Jessie Mae Sorrow in Cleveland, Alabama on December 4, 1942, the oldest of four siblings.

She is preceded in death by her dear parents, Tharmon and Jessie Mae Sorrow, as well as her
precious granddaughter, Erin. As one of Erin's favorite people on earth, we know that the eternal greeting was even sweeter than those in life.

She is survived by her children, Tharmon Wynn (Angie) and Kimberly Rosemore, who carry on her legacy, as well as her grandchildren Kyle Wynn, Evan Rosemore (Cate), Landon Stubblefield (Thomas), and Haley Lenes (Graham). Her sisters Nancy Posey (Claud) and Carol Faust, along with her brother Rex Sorrow (Stephanie) also mourn her loss. She considered herself blessed to have met her two great grandchildren, Elliott and Leighton, the latter of which she got to meet in person only weeks before her death. She was overjoyed to be welcoming another great grandchild in October.

A few days before death, she was asked how she would like to be remembered. She wished for people to remember that she loved God and her family. Those who know her know these things to be unequivocally true. They would also all agree that she was a woman who was kind, put others first, and had a great sense of humor. She was always the life of the party and kept everyone around her on their toes.

She lived out God's commandment to love others well. Her servant's heart benefited not only her family, but everyone she encountered. She was a giver through and through, always ensuring others needs were met before her own. She protected those she loved fiercely.

Her grandchildren remember her as the "fun" Granna/Nina. Time spent with her was sure to be full of activities, cruising around with the top down in her Volkswagen Beetle, a perfect representation of her spirit. Days with her family were among her most treasured.

As proud as she was of her children and grandchildren's successes, she was prouder still of the traits she instilled in them - their care for others, their ability to make people laugh, and the compassion that they exhibit. All qualities that she demonstrated and taught them throughout her life.
