Opal Ophelia (Sloan) Wakeland, age 88, of Trafford peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born March 17, 1931 to the late Joel Starling and Dollie Rhodes Sloan in Walker County, Alabama. Mrs. Wakeland is preceded in death by her husband, of 57 years, Ray Wakeland. She attended Waterstone Baptist Church. Mrs. Wakeland was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed doing word searches and puzzles. She was a great seamstress and cook and was very dedicated to her family.

She is survived by her children Kathleen (Michael) Glover, Cathy Doyle, Rita (William) Dickinson, Mark Wakeland, Mary Allison (Russell) Newfield; grandchildren Erica, Alan, Marissa, Annalease, Douglas; great grandchildren Zach, Alex, Jacob, Devan, Joshua; great great grandchildren Tyler, Audrey, Abigail; her sister Yvonne Sloan; her fur baby Tina; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Warrior Independent Church of God on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 5:30 PM until 6 PM. Services will be held following at 6:00 PM at Warrior Independent Church of God. Interment will be held at Trafford Baptist Cemetery in Trafford, Alabama on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
