Obituary for Lavenia Darlene Wood

On March 29th, 2020, Lavenia Darlene Scroggins Wood, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away at age 77.

Darlene was born June 24, 1942 to Harold and Mildred Scroggins in Saint Louis, Missouri. Darlene was raised in Flint, Michigan. During her youth in Flint, Darlene enjoyed being a member of Brownies, Girls Scouts, and the Future Nurses Club. She moved to Texas in 1978 and achieved her dream of becoming a nurse after graduating from Paris Junior College on August 8, 1980. She enjoyed taking care of her patients. Darlene also was a substitute teacher in Texas. She had love for children - especially special needs children. Darlene loved to read, go bowling, and spend time with friends and family. She was a devout Christian who loved attending church and being involved in church activities.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Wood, who was a Navy Seal. Her devoted parents, Harold and Mildred Scroggings. Her loving son, James Wood, who served his country in the Army and her beloved granddaughter, Sara Mizuno.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorrie Newth and Darla Parks. Her sons, Phillip Wood, John C. Wood, and Joe Wood. Her grandchildren, Shina Mizuno, Logan Wood, and Shayla Wood. Her sisters, Carolyn Mortenson and Kay Goodman and brother, David Scroggins. Her son in law, Fred Newth and daughter in law, Michelle Wood.

Due to current health concerns with COVID-19, a funeral will not take place. The family is hoping to hold a memorial service to honor Darlene at a future date.
