Larry Joe Duffel passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in McKinnon, Tennessee on August 4, 1939 and was a life-long resident of Tarrant City, Alabama. In his later years, he resided on Berry Mountain in Blount County, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oakley Elone (Bill) Duffel and Kathryn Warden Duffel of Tennessee Ridge, Tennessee, and his brother, Charles Eugene Duffel.
Larry is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Nina Allen Duffel, and his four children: Scott Duffel (Sonja), Chris Duffel (Cheryl), Brandy Duffel Little, and Kelly Floyd (Ritchie) – all of Blount County, Alabama. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Miss Anna Grace Duffel, Megan Duffel Allen (Audi), Nathan Duffel, Nicholas Johnson, and Mitchell Johnson (Lauren), and great-grandchildren Foster Audi Allen, and Paisley Johnson. Larry is survived by his brother, Robert Duffel, Rosemary Dennis (Kelton), and Linda Manning (Tommy) – all of Tarrant City, Alabama, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Larry attended Tarrant High School and was employed in his younger years at Millbrook Bread Company, and the Birmingham News. Later he worked at Passavant Corporation, and retired from O’Neal Steel in 2003 after 23 years of service.
Larry was known all over the Birmingham area as he cut trees using the older type saddle equipment. He also owned and operated Duffel Excavating Company and performed many foundational services in the Sun Valley community in Center Point, and in Country Cove in Springdale/Black Creek community.
Friends and family are cordially invited to attend the visitation that begins at the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church 1133 Pine Grove Road Oneonta, AL 35121, on Saturday, April 16th from 12 Noon until 2:00pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm, with interment at Dailey’s Chapel in Rosa, Alabama.
