Obituary for James Dillon Sargent

James Dillon Sargent age 83, of Hayden, passed away Wednesday, November 24th, 2021 at Cullman Regional Hospital. Mr. Sargent was born on April 27, 1938 to James Woodrow and Dorene Brazeel Sargent.
He graduated from Hayden High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for four years. He was an entrepreneur of several businesses in his lifetime and retired from Southern Company services. He was known around Blount County as "Fireman Jim" for his efforts to bring to fruition Volunteer Fire Departments in West Blount County. He also started Fire Safety education for all 5th grades in Blount County Schools. Jim met and married his match in Shirley Ann Crump Sargent on June 23, 1973, gaining a love to the end of his life and two additional children.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Shirley, children Marty Sargent (Lanita), Andrew Sargent, Melanie Sargent Ladner (David), Leanne Butler (Leon) and Shay Crump ( Nancy), His legacy also includes nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2great- great grandchildren.


The family will receive friends at the Gethsemane Baptist Church 6170 State Hwy 160 Hayden, Alabama 35079 Sunday, November 28th, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 28th, 2021 at 2:00 pm in Gethsemane Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Hayden, Alabama.
