James "Jim" Richard Fields age 78, of Cleveland, Al. passed away Saturday, May 28th, 2016.

Survivors include Wife: Judy Myers Fields, Son: Brian (Christie) Fields, Daughters: Angela (Mike) Smith & Leslie (Adrian) Diodato, Brothers: Jerry Fields, Joe Fields and John Fields. Grandchildren, Emily, Jeremiah, Jared, Jacob, Joshua, Cali, Keeton, Tyson, Nikki and Eryn. Great Grandchild: Lona. He was preceded in death by his Parents: Julius Tucker Fields and Ella Mae Blalock Fields, Son: Mark Porter and grandchild: Christopher.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 2nd, 2016 at 11:00 am - 1171 Bend Road, Cleveland, AL 35049 at Lakeside.

Mr.Fields was employed with the United States Navy as a Lt. Commander Navy Pilot. He enlisted in the Navy after High School graduation in 1955. He went from enlisted to officer at the Naval Academy graduating in 1963. He received his wings to fly in Pensacola, Fl moving on to Corpus Christi, TX and back to Jacksonville, FL. He then went to Monterey, CA to the Naval Postgraduate School. He flew the P-3 aircraft in VP-17, Barber's Point, HI working at Pearl Harbor for CINCPACFLT. He finally flew the C-130 aircraft in VQ-4, Patuxent River, MD., retiring in 1984. He worked with Systems Analysis for Sperry-Univac and Unisys until his full retirement.

Mr. Fields was all about family & church. He was first counselor, seminary teacher, church employment specialist, and missionary counselor. He was a Mason, Cub Scout Leader and avid tennis player. His handle in the military was "Papa Smurf" of which his crew named him. He also loved to play poker and shoot pool.
